Hi, I came to the first meeting this week however I do not have a bike. I am looking into getting my first bike some time this week. I have no experience biking and do not know where to start. I would like to train to be able to race some day. What kind of bike should I get to start out with?

My weight is 195, I am about 6 foot tall. I would like to spend under $1,000. I don't know what would be better to start off on a road or off-road - or there is no real difference?

you can always go both ways Wink.
To me, the difference is the kind of path you are riding, and the degree of difficulty that mountain biking gives you, which is short and intense.

I started off road. But it's up to you, some people enjoy more road then anything else. It is kind of a risk that you are taking by getting a bike, whatever you choose I am sure you will have fun so hurry up!

they both are going to hurt when you first start out, you will probably fall more with mtbing on trails.  I started out road and have dabbled in mtbing.  Mtbing is alot of fun and exciting, but if you are falling and running into things every 5 minutes it can turn you off to it quick just ask trey.

I started off as a MTber. I nearly cracked some ribs once. I'm with the road bikes now. If you wanna be a stuntman, ask the head of our "Department of Stunts and Tricks", Ericka.
