that in women open you are going to get your ass handed to you.

In noncollegiate racing the Women's Catagories are 4, 3, 2, 1 and Pro. (With 4 being beginners and as you accumulate points you can move up in Catagory). In women's 4, only women' with a catagory of 4 can race, but in women's open all catagories are grouped together. So theoretically you could be racing in your first race against someone who races pro (happened to me, and Izzy is right, my ass got handed to me). Unfortunately due to the low numbers of women racing in Texas many of the TXBRA road races only have a women's open catagory.

alright, well having my ass handed to me has happened before, but only once and then i got hella fast (i will hand your ass to you on a marathon)...so that doesn't bother me at all. of course i'm gonna sign up for the cat. 4, i figured committing to be at a race is a good way to motivate me to JUST DO IT. like a nike commercial.

If you are a cat 4 and there is a cat 4 race available you have to sign up for it. There just isn't usually a cat 4 race available.

I wasn't saying for sure about this race, I was just saying in general. If there is on the registration then there is. I was just letting you know for general reference that if there is a women's 4, that is what you need to enter (until you cat up at least).
