SHASTA SAYS: "HI-SPEED, LOW-DRAG!"

« on: April 03, 2009, 12:05:11 PM »

I think we are long over due for this thread. Lets start swimming open water every Friday. Preferably Twin Lakes. This would be great training for our triathletes to swim in open water.

Swimming in a pool is nothing close to swimming in a lake or ocean. There are no walls, no floor, its cold, its dark, muddy and you can only see a meter in front of you. It's very intimidating and it's only a training course. Like how we say it in the Army, train like we fight!

I feel that if we need to prepare for a triathlon, then we need to train in an environment that closely simulates the swim course of a triathlon, not in the clean and sterile pools of UH's Wellness Center. It's $5 to swim all day. So if your interested in getting some time out in the open, post here.

If anyone knows of a better or closer place to swim open water on Fridays, post here.

Twin Lakes is located off 288 and highway 6.

He's totally right...it's a different world outside of the pool.

I might be down for this.

Yeah.  I was amazed at how crowded the water was at Lone Star.  Usually the field thins out very quickly, but I was getting bumped basically the whole swim.  The current was a little strong and I think it pushed everyone together.  I was in the front (of the wave that started after mine).
