So some kids were asking about Houston alleycat races the other day and there is actually one this weekend. All racers should be aware that these are highly underground kinda crazy races with checkpoints and a lot of weird sort of side-tasks they will have to do to win. No straight shot A-to-B type stuff here. Tons of fun, though-just remember, these are thrown by crazy, off-the wall messengers. More fun than competition.
So here ya go: The Second Annual Worst Day of Your Life Race! Saturday, Sept. 12th, 4:00 pm: Tranquility Park @ Smith and Rusk (downtown) entry:$15 Bring: bag (messenger style, if possible-you WILL be carrying things), lock (you may be asked to lock and leave your bike for a short time), raingear (even if it is not going to rain), pen, and anything you may need to fix flats and what-not (you never know what kind of streets you may be riding on)
Friday, Sept. 11th, 9:00 pm: Pre-race party @ Late Night Pie, Tuam St. (just west of downtown near Elgin) Gold-sprints (roller-races), music, drinks, pizza, etc...Good times to be had by all. $5-entry to gold sprints (free with Saturday race-registration)
There are a ton of sponsors for this race, which means there will be prizes-bags, gear, etc. Should be a good time-unfortunately, I can't make it, but maybe a couple of you guys can.
