Hey there!
Okay, this is a little random, I have to admit, but I joined this online forum thing to sort of gauge how much interest there was at UH regarding athletics/triathlons. I currently go to Southwestern University, but I might be transferring to UH for the Spring semester due to financial reasons. Anyway, I'm currently training for the CapTex olympic triathlon in May. I've been doing the majority of the training on my own, but if there is someone who is interested in training with me (whether it's in preparation for a tri or just for the hell of it) I would love the company! Training is a lot of fun actually, and I don't mind doing it on my own. But if I end up transferring to UH for a semester, I think this would be a great way for me to meet people. Basically I just wanted to get a feel of the general attitude around the campus....and broad a topic as that is.... Smiley

Welcome and come join us!

There seems to be a good growing number of us who actually want to do triathlons this time around..(ie - makes me VERY happy).

While I still stink at swimming like there's no tomorrow, I'm currently training for the LoneStar half in April and plan on doing longer distance triathlons in 2010 in prep for my first full IM in 2011.  I've been doing a lot more running now in prep for the Austin marathon and since I'm a wuss to cycle too much in cold weather anyway. =P

Keep lurking in the forums and chime in whenever you'd like to ride/run (not swim...I'll get schooled).

You came to the right place to gauge interest. I do a lot of my swim training at UH's rec center or at Twin Lakes under Greg Orphanides, UH Woman's Swim Coach . I will be doing the LoneStar Tri next April so I am looking for a wing-man. Send me a message if you'd like to join me.

What days are you training for the swim? I'd like to come out a few times if I can to twin lakes to get used to open water swim. I'm currently in training for Lonestar Half also and I need to work on my efficiency while swimming.

I swam at Twin lakes during the summer. Now I wont even think about driving way out there because of the temperatures, even in a wetsuit. I go at least once a week at the rec center on Fridays.

Hi Ash, there are not too many options where to swim around Houston, especially in the winter. When it get's warmer  twin lake scuba park is 15 min drive from downtown houston.

I will be doing at 6 the Westend ride. I might go to the park when they are done. We'll see.

Becca and Ash...welcome to the tri group!  We need more!!!

Aside from Joe and Jillian, I've been left hanging a lot around looking for people.  Looks like this semester we have a good group going.

I know that Steve D. would like to (and I think it's a great idea) start perhaps a brick workout day...we can tag it onto one of the T,TH rides or do a day on a weekend of ourselves getting out there and doing something.

If you have access to the race forums already, pull my number off there or PM me and we'll get together for some good bricks...my legs need it!

Welcome! I'll wait until the weather gets warmer, but Izzy and I usually swim out at Twin Lakes. Open water swimming is a lot different than in a pool.
