Twice a week will be nice. But again at this point you want to teach your body to use more fat then glycogen, you can do that only being on your bike and riding it. Power should come after endurance since endurance is harder to get.

Doing sprints and power twice a week would not hurt, but your miles are more important right now.

What type of bike parts do you need?

And why?

Kat,

I have the type of workout we did on the trainer last night on my schedule twice a week.  The rest is longer endurance miles.  As Izzy said, this is the time of year where you really want to start building a base.  So you twice a week is all you would want to do that workout right now.

Doing sprints and power twice a week on the bike, I assume?  Cause running is just as fun for me.  I'm always working out anyway I just want to modify it for the bike.

Well I for sure need clipless pedals, a set of performance wheels, probably a new crankset, definitely a better saddle.

Running is also great for cycling, impact training is really good and importantfor bone destiny and over all trash-hold point. Again the best thing you can do to your self right now is cardio, and a lot of it with a lot of rest and a lot of food.

As now about your saddle I can let you barrow one till you get one or a new bike.

Unfortunately if I remember right from looking at your bike it won't be possible to use any of the crank sets that we use on our bikes. Finding parts for bike that is this old is really hard and sometimes really expansive if you wish to find it new. From looking at what you have, I don't see any reason for you to get a new cranks or new wheels. It doesn't worth the investment, nothing is broken and the bike works great, in fact it works better then some peoples high tech bikes on the team simply because there's nothing that can go wrong with your bike. If I was you I would race this bike for a semester or so and then get a new bike with new wheels and SRAM red!

Oh yeah, if you want I can let you use a saddle that I have, however, it's not butt friendly.

well i've been looking for a new crankset for a while, before i thought about joining up, and my local bike shop has plenty of mildly used cranksets that will fit it.  i don't hate mine, i just love buying stuff for my bike.  really all i want is a badass saddle, one that is butt-friendly for women, and clipless pedals.  i probably won't even consider getting a new bike until well after i graduate, just because i love my old skool nishiki.  it sings to me everyday. lol

Get your bike a miniature baboon (mine has one). New crank set is not needed. It's probably a waste of money. You should trust me when I say that you don't get your moneys worth, I am Jewish.

I'll sell you the stock saddle that came with my bike. It's fairly new and it comfy. Send me a personal message if you wanna buy it and we can work things out from there.
