I'm allergic to swimming...

« on: March 23, 2010, 07:49:33 PM »

Howdy tri folk once again...

I need to know who is interested in triathlons and any USAT Member Info you can provide (really, all I need is your name and USAT #).

Reasons:

I have requested ownership of the "University of Houston" triathlon club management from USAT.  We are currently a non-collegiate team in the system and am correcting that as needed.

I need to fill complete the grant application for our club.

What does a grant give us?

It gives us some money ($100-2000 at the regular club level) to be used for events, creation of events, certifications (to some extent)....but more importantly, it gives the club the opportunity to fund some races to our members.  Currently, we are unable to use ANY money from our accounts or university funds to pay for any races or anything related since there is only one collegiate race a year which most will not be racing.

I need this asap so that I may file our application by the deadline of April 15.

Next year, I can file for the Collegiate grant whose deadline is Feb 28.

I'm trying to help us out....so help me out! Tongue

Ok, we're set.

We are in good standing until 12/31/2010.

I will be filling out the grant application form tomorrow and submitting that first thing.

For those of you obtaining your USAT license:  when you are asked about a club affiliation, select "University of Houston Cougar Cycling and Triathlon" and you'll automatically be added to the roster.

RICH!  I don't see you on there, but know you have a USAT...so do it!  Tongue

Shay and Arkadiusz, I see you both...awesome!

Angela:  Just login to your USAT account and add the club.  (same goes for all you folks who already have one)

BUMP...people even SLIGHTLY interested in doing triathlons...PLEASE raise your hand (or PM) and if you have a USAT license already, make sure you login and follow the instructions above.

While we (as a club) do have a Triathlon section, we are unable to use ANY of our club money for use for tri events.  Having this grant will help us fund certain things for people who are really interested in the sport and also education and exposure of it to our community (and thus help out our club too for more membership).

And yes, of course I'm a little passionate about this as I am more of a triathlete (though allergic to swimming) than a roadie, but hey...gotta represent.

If in doubt, ask as well...I can answer any questions you have about this....and most other things too.  It's the Physicist in me. Tongue

I will do some tris as well. Some, not many just some. Maybe Trey will join me too since he's so good in the open water.

I'm officially going to become an official USAT coach.  There are a few things that I have to do, but it seems like a doable thing that I think we could all benefit from.  Even if I don't follow my own instructions, I at least know I'm good at giving good advice/coaching. Tongue

So...for the Fall semester, I should be able to "officially" coach us and help us better obtain any goals we have in the sport.  Looks like I will also be completing a USAC certification at some point to complete a Level 2 since my BS is not sports related...but I have time for that it seems.
