A message from Mathew Reynolds
"I got this e-mail last night from the President of the LSU Cycling Team, please everyone be careful when you are riding. We as cyclists are so vulnerable to autos and I don't want anyone else to experience what Mike, his family, friends and LSU Cycling family are going through. If you can think of anything to help, let me know and I can pass it along to Brennan.
Fellow Cyclist,
A Louisiana State University cyclist was hit by a truck early Saturday morning. Mike Bitton, a student at LSU and a member of the cycling team was training Saturday morning when a truck hit him from behind and drove off. Another group of cyclist, including a couple of LSU teammates, found Mike on the side of the road in a ditch about ten minutes later. He was rushed to the nearest hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was eventually tracked down and arrested. Mike remains in critical condition at the Baton Rouge General Hospital. Please keep him in your thoughts as he fights for his life. I have included several links to local stories that have been run on the incident.
The LSU Cycling team is hosting a fundraiser and blood drive Wednesday, May 19 for Mike and his family. We have also set up a paypal account (
LSUcyclingclub@gmail.com) to accept donations to help with medical expenses and rehabilitation.
