Hi Everyone,

Before I start, I'll say sorry for disappearing for so long, but I'll be back this fall for plenty of riding, and I'll certainly be there to provide fresh meat for the MSU guys whenever I can.

Which brings me to the topic of our cyclocross race.  I'll first say that this year looks like it's going to be a pretty big year for Texas Cross.  A bunch of cross promoters are getting together to put on a statewide series of 3-4 races (one in each major city) that will crown the State Champion a la TMBRA style.  The calender is already taking shape, and I wanted to get everyone's view on doing our cyclocross race.  I am more than willing to do this again, but I wanted to make sure others were interested because it does require volunteers for the day of the race and before that.  We also need enough guys to want to race, too.  If we're going to put it on, we might as well win it.  The other things are, another school may want to do regionals, but I haven't heard anything, and we have the option of using our resources to help out other Bike Barn-sponsored events, of which there are a good number.

If yes, then the next question is when?  Drew Tucker, the TXBRA cross guy, has reserved last years position (Jan 7) for us, but there are some other possible dates.  I'm thinking of trying to move it up in order to try and get more participation from other schools that traditionally leave for the winter break.  So, our options are:

October 15-16
October 22-23
November 26-27 (Thanksgiving weekend)
December 17-18
Jan 7-8

Post or email me with what you're thinking.

Thanks,
Troy D.

awww shieet...the return of TD.  Glad to see you're back.

As for the cross race, I am all about cx.  The dates are hard to deal with though.  I don't think Dec. 17-18 works because everyones just finished with school and probably want to get home.  Thanksgiving, rest and family is probably all anyones thinking about then.  Jan 7-8 worked out ok for us, but other colleges didnt really attend.  I'm not sure if that's because people arent interested cross itself, or if driving out to Houston during winter break for one race that doesnt add points towards road/mtn is just not appealing.  The octobers sound ok, but usually theres some mtb stuff scheduled those weekends.

Maybe send out an email to other teams to get an idea of the cross interest?  Or just not worry so much about collegiate and make sure we put on a decent txbra race?

There's been talks of some strong B's moving up to A's this coming Fall.  You might have some allies this time around.   Shocked

oh and by the way, I am all about hosting that event again.  I am down for doing whatever it takes to get that thing rolling and making it even bigger and better than last year.

Good to hear from you Troy.
I'll help out with the event and also race in it. As for the dates, I dont have any preferences, but I think the thanksgiving weekend and the one in december aren't the best dates.

Just to let everyone know, our cross race is up on the TXBRA calendar, and you can check it out at http://www.txbra.org/events/event.asp?EventID=1229, and the flyer is up there, too.

Any input/suggestions would be appreciated.  Please put this event on your calendars because it does require a fair amount of volunteers to pull off, and we want plenty of people racing, too.  Also, there's no excuse not to be there because it's on campus unless you're away for the winter holiday, in which case, you should head back a little early.

Thanks,
Troy D.

I think an additional challenge is that Jan 7 is one week before the Houston marathon. Some of the triathaletes may be participating in this one.

That's alright then.  It'd be great to have you there to help out, Darren.  Racing isn't the priority, putting on a good race is.
