Triathlon is a sport of 3 disciplines; swimming, cycling and running. While mastery of all these is accomplished by an elite few, the vast majority of athletes train for months to prepare for races of varying distances. It can be said that the most coveted distance of triathlons is the Ironman; 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run. There is no doubt that this endurance event requires great physical strength, but it also tests mental toughness, to have the courage, dedication and yes, to be crazy enough to do it in the first place. Athletes of all shapes and sizes, ages and backgrounds, and abilities and causes jump into the water together and fight through blood, sweat and tears to write their own legend. Some may fall short on their journey but many persevere, creating a marvelous, must-see spectacle at the finish line. On Saturday May 21 you have the opportunity to witness some of the most awe-inspiring athletes at Ironman Texas in the Woodlands. Come out and support these incredible athletes with cowbells and whistles, whoops and hollers and applause and encouragement. I will be volunteering as a swim marshal in the AM, a run marshal in the afternoon and at running station 5 in the evening. We still need volunteers for the afternoon and evening, so if you can dedicate time and energy please help out. Contact me at
