banner elk aint bad, been there several times, good climbs not too steep, alittle rooty, beautiful area no doubt about it, in fact ill be there on the 22nd-23rd for some skiing, great camping areas as well, caverns and blue ridge to check out in spare time, in fact if you camp out down the road in pisgah nat forest, you can drive to the top and when you wake the clouds and fog will be well below you so you look out and all you see is the mtn tops above the clouds  i'd post pics but this site won't let me

google  tsali national forest,  thats top three in the south east easily, they even hold pre-lims for olympic kayaking there too, you can also go to skisugar.com and thats part of thr banner elk area,  or go to highcountrywebcams.com and you can check out banner elks main road, its small,  google mount mitchell national park theres a decent web cam too and its just south of banner elk,  it's also the tallest point east of the mississippi, gets real cold up there!!!  oh i miss home!!!

How many qualify.  If your team gets 1st in conference you can take 4 people for each race.  Other than that, you must get a high placing in A's for the season (you have to make just about every race).  If someone that qualified cannot go, they work down the list.

That's where it gets complicated.  There is a B race, but our conference does not have a high enough membership to allow b riders to go.  We are more worried about getting the deserving A riders to Nationals with our few spots.  If anyone (like Cliff) is interested in doing 4 cross or downhill, they are pretty much given a spot since our conference doesn't compete during the season in those disciplines.

All this nationals talk is nice, but there's some discussion that needs to happen regarding money.  We've used our "National Convention" story already, so I wouldn't expect another go at it this year from campus recreations.  And as far as our budget goes, there's a large reserve that will be used to advertise for 07-08.  And I dont care what happens at the end of the year with our racing money; that advertising chunk is untouchable.

Negativity aside, there is money to be used.  It would just be easier to say how much if receipts were taken care of; and that's both on our end, and the school's end.  And things should be clearer in the spring.

If a rider is able to go to Nationals, I think we can all find a way to get him, her, or them there.  It doesn't always have to come straight from the school.
