Ward via Lee Hill & Left Hand

I took a slightly different route for this climb than what I originally planned, so it ended up being shorter, but also steeper and more scenic. The first mile of Lee Hill near the start was 11% grade. The rest of the climb varied between 4-5%, until the last mile and a half which was 10%. The top of this climb was 9,300 ft above sea level. It was cold up there. I'll probably bring arm warmers next time. It took me one hour and seventeen minutes to reach the top of this climb, which makes this the longest one I've done so far. I paced myself pretty well, as I didn't feel too fatigued when I got to the top. This was good because I still had about an hour left in my ride, although it was mostly downhill. Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to practice my high-speed descending skills because I got stuck behind a slow moving van on the road I took back to Boulder.

Distance:16.6 miles
Elevation Gain: 3700 ft
Total time: 1:17:38
Average Speed: 12.8 mph
Average Power: 276 W
Normalized Power: 284 W
Average Cadence: 85 rpm

Here's a interesting thing I've noticed about descending. When you approach a turn, there will be a sign that tells you the direction of the turn and the speed limit. Whatever the speed limit is, you can go into the turn at twice that speed without going over the yellow line and into oncoming traffic. So if you reach a switch back, which all have speed limits of 10 mph, you can make the turn at 20 mph if you really lean that bike and use the entire lane. Never go over the line though, because 50% of the time there will be a car going the other direction. Somehow, the only time you see cars going the opposite direction is when you're about to turn.
