Hey guys, So here is the deal, the road race schedule is looking kind of sparse so far. Tamu hasnt secured their Tunis road race date, SFA has not completely put together their road race leaving the only two weekends being the MSU stage race and the Conference championships at UT. That is not enough dates to even qualify anyone for nationals. I would like for us to come up with a road race. We have done crits, mtb races, even a mtb championship, and about to host our 3rd anual cross race. I think we really need to throw our hat in the ring for a road race, its kind of our duty as a member of the scccc. Danny and I are going to need a lot of your help to get this thing rolling and to have any chance of it being a successful event. I will be asking for a lot of help from Carl, but first off, does anyone have a good idea for a road race venue around Houston. I think in the city is going to be out of our budget, unless there are some less dense areas. Please respond to this, with any ideas or thoughts even ones not related to race location. Thanks, your Prez.

haha, funny you should mention that. I always wondered why we didn't throw any RR's. As far as Venue, I really like the place I do my training rides. Its an 11 mile loop, so that would allow you to have C's, B's and A's all on it, just doing different number of laps. It's off of Blt 8 on the east side of town and the traffic is kinda light. Even if it's not closed to traffic or just one of the two lanes is closed it'll still work perfectly fine. Not gravel, new asphalt, even a little uphill section. Anyways, thats my suggestion for Venue because on the east side of town where I live there are plenty of new roads with light traffic. There's another section too but thats a 6 mile loop and a part of it repeats on itself so it's not as good. But yeah, i'm totally in for helping out and if you guys want to come and take a look at the place i'm talking but just give me a jingle. mo-

I did the Houston Triathlon back in 1992 down around the Johnson Space Center and that was pretty cool.

The texas state tri is alot of fun, plus they have the collegiate division. I did it a couple years back, and have helped out the past couple years. The swim is usually very cold, so bring a wetsuit. The bike course is nice and hilly, the run has a couple short climbs in and out of the transition area and finish. Great cold beer afterwards with live music. Definitely a must for your Tri guys/gals!
